predilection places of sores, in addition to those already mentioned occurring in the
early stages, are the patellae, inner surfaces of the knees, and inner ankles. Sores develop
in these areas, particularly in cases with increased spasticity in which adductor and flexor
spasms are predominant, and they are particularly dangerous because they easily pene
trate into the knee and ankle joints. Special mention must be made of pressure in the
trachea produced by tracheostomy tubes (see Chapter on Tracheostomy). Furthermore, a
sore may develop at the inside of the nostril as a result of pressure from a nasal tube
fixed by adhesive material against the innerside of the nose.
