The Spirit trustees were delighted to learn recently that our patron, Baroness Susan Masham has been presented with a replacement Paralympic gold medal.
In 1960, Baroness Masham (a very accomplished Paralympic athlete) won a swimming gold medal at the Rome Paralympic games.
On going out to celebrate her significant achievements, she lost her gold medal at a restaurant in the city.
The British Paralympic Association recently became aware that Sue had been without her medal since it was lost and have taken steps to obtain a replacement gold medal for Sue.
At a ceremony hosted by the British Paralympic Association recently, Sue who went on to win many more medals at Paralympic Games, was reunited with an exact copy of her gold medal.
Congratulations go to Sue from all the Spirit trustees for not only winning her medal back in 1960 but being reunited with her copy medal at this recent ceremony. Thanks also go to the British Paralympic Association for arranging this for her.
