In evaluating the type of industrial and professional resettlement, several groups can
be distinguished, some of which may be mentioned here:
(a) The first group consists of paralysed who, before their injury, had already been
employed in skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled occupations and have succeeded in going
back to their former trades in spite of their severe disability.
The very first patient of this Centre (H.C.) is an example of this group. He was
wounded in 1943 and was admitted to the Centre on 3 February 1944 with a conus-cauda
equina lesion below L2/L3, with suprapubic drainage and a deep pressure sore over the
left buttock. In due course, he developed in addition a para-vertebral abscess. Before
