In the rehabilitation of paraplegics and tetraplegics, water therapy and training for
water sport play a very essential part, and a swimming pool of adequate size—preferably
25 m in length—should be one of the essential equipments of a spinal injuries centre.
The former Ministry of Pensions took up the challenge and, in spite of severe economic
stringencies in Great Britain as a result of the Second World War, provided the facilities
