cord showed microscopically complete destruction and was replaced by glial and fibrous
scar. Many spinal roots were embedded in dense fibrous adhesions and showed demye-
lination. The vessels showed various degrees of thrombosis. These changes are shown
in Fig. 38, and Fig. 39 demonstrates the extensive ascending demyelination in the
fasciculus gracilis of the posterior column and also lateral demyelination in the marginal
anterior and posterior spino-thalamic tracts of the yth thoracic segment.
